Most people think running hours and hours on a treadmill is the key and tend to avoid weight training or lifting weights, this applies especially to women. It also helps to increase your overall metabolism which means you burn more calories daily so you can even eat more and still lose weight.
However weight training is very important and must not be ignored even by women. Most women think weight training will make them bulky and not look attractive when the opposite is true. You will not be lifting anything as heavy as the guys so you will not build big muscles, instead you will add a little muscle which will then help to increase your overall metabolism without having to exercise more since muscle burns calories continuously.
Goal setting is also an important part of any weight loss program. You need to learn how to set realistic goals like losing 10 pounds a month until you reach your target weight. Do not be too ambitious and set goals that are too high. Also try to write your goals down on a piece of paper and look at them at least once a day to keep your mind on track. Believe in yourself and you will find a way to get to the healthy weight you deserve to be at.
