4 Weight Loss Myths That Need Busting

SUMMARY: Along with weight loss comes a lot of myths of what you should and should not do. Some of them are in your best interest, but which ones?

Myth #1: Eating no carbohydrates will make you lose weight faster.

Truth: Yes, eating no carbohydrates will cause pounds to literally fall off, but it isn’t manageable for the long term. The majority of people that start a low-carb diet gain all of the weight back, then some. It is also unhealthy and dangerous and best avoided at all costs. Weight loss doesn’t need to be about shedding as much weight as you can in two weeks.

Myth #2: Dairy can help you lose weight faster.

Truth: For some people this may be true. Dairy products appear to carry a special hormone that bonds in the body and helps some people lose weight. The real truth is that the majority of people in the world are actually lactose intolerant. This means when they ingest lactose, or dairy, they experience painful stomach cramps, headaches, facial acne, and of course, bloating and weight gain.

Myth #3: Pre-packaged health food is bad for you and should be avoided at all costs.

Truth: It is difficult for busy people to entirely avoid packaged foods. For this reason, all pre-packed foods are not evil. Some are actually healthy and contain low levels of sodium, fat, and carbohydrates. It is a matter of choose the right choice for your weight loss plan and only having that a few times a week. Treat it like a healthy version of fast food, but don’t eat from a box 3 times per day.

Myth #4: Bulking up in weight training makes women look manly.

Truth: Women should use weights more often to develop muscles that will further improve their weight loss attempts. Muscle will not look gaudy or manly on females unless they over supplement their efforts with too much protein powder and too heavy weights. In reality, regular strength training can build muscle mass as well as bone mass – something women of all ages need to consider when trying to lose weight!

As you can see, there is a big range of misunderstanding when it comes to weight loss myths. Following those tips can actually lead to a harder journey when trying to lose weight, so avoid believing what other people tell you in magazines and in real life!
